Watir is a simple open-source tool for automating web browsers. It allows you to write tests that are easy to read and easy to maintain. It is optimized for simplicity and flexibility.  Watir drives browsers the same way people do. It clicks links, fills in forms, presses buttons. Watir also checks results, such as whether expected text appears on the page.

Remember the promise of software test automation?  Freedom from the drudgery of repeating manual tests over and over... Better test coverage... Repeatability of tests... Ending the so-called bottleneck of software testing?
 
For many of us, that promise has been broken.  There's a lot of test automation shelfware out there.  Automation projects start out full of hope and optimism, and end up bogged down in hundreds or thousands of unmaintainable tests.  Why is that?
 
We think traditional tools and processes have set testers up to fail.  Problems caused by the high cost of traditional tools, the pitfalls of capture & playback, and the limitations of vendorscript have left many of us frustrated and looking for a better solution.  As teams move toward an Agile development methodology, these problems become more glaring.   
 
WatirCraft was started by the Lead Developer of the Watir project, Bret Pettichord, to provide a complete solution around the Watir tool.   Today Watircraft is making significant investments in the Watir project.  Together with the community, we are working to ensure Watir supports the most popular browsers, and we're building a standard framework (based on RSpec) to make Watir even easier to adopt.   Register with us if you'd like to sign up to stay informed about new developments.
